The Peugeot iOn is a fun city car, starting to show its age

Introduction to the Peugeot iOn
The Peugeot iOn is a 5-door, 4-seat electric car. It’s only now available second hand.
Now, if you have just read our review of the Citroen C-Zero, you will know the iOn was actually made by Mitsubishi and rebadged by Peugeot as the iOn.
All these rebadged versions look practically identical. If you see what you think is an iOn around town it might actually be its twin sister the C-Zero!
Positives
- Cheap way into EV ownership
- Easy to park
Negatives
- Poor range
- Dated

Peugeot iOn – Range
This Peugeot electric car has a 16 kWh battery which translates into a real world range of roughly 70 miles.
Like the C-Zero, the Peugeot’s range in miles is not brilliant, and modern EVs can all do much better.

Peugeot iOn – Price
When on sale, the car used to cost from £17,000, including the PiCG grant.
That makes it the cheapest EV in the UK, along with the C-Zero. If you buy one second hand with a few miles on the clock, you could get a very low price.
The design is looking a bit dated since the platform launch in 2009, but, if you are not bothered about the looks, and don’t need the latest tech, the iOn represents a very low cost route into EV ownership.

Who is the Peugeot iOn for?

This is a Peugeot zero emission electric car. It has a big enough battery and range to move you around town comfortably and cheaply.
The iOn does 0 to 62 mph in 15.9 seconds. That’s fairly slow by EV standards, but if you are not in a hurry – no problem.
Its electric motor achieves a top speed of 81 mph for this rear-wheel drive EV.
It comes with rapid charging capabilities up to 40 kW via a CHAdeMO connector, which means it can cope with longer trips, if necessary.
The iOn can move 4 people around the city in relative comfort. Like the C-Zero, it may not be the most advanced electric car, but it does what it says on the tin.
